Designation of Origin Toro.
Location of the vineyards: In the central, north-west region
of Spain known as Toro, belonging to the
Province of Zamora.
The land: With an extreme climate and sandy, very poor
and breathable earth, with pieces of gravel that control ripening
through heat and that settle on clay with good drainage.
The grape: The main grape is the Toro Red grape (Tempranillo
variety), local to the area.
Serving: Ideal accompaniment for meat dishes, vegetables,
cheese and cold meats. Serving temperature: 16º/18º C.
VIÑA PRODIGUS Roble
Oak-aged. It will mature very well in the bottle for 4-5 years
following its harvest.
Type of wine: Young red, 4 months in barrel. Varietal.
Grape variety: 90% Toro Red and 10% Garnacha.
Alcoholic content: 13.5% Vol.
Ageing: Minimum of 4 months in oak barrels.
Description: Deep cherry colour, strong, fruit aroma (reminiscent
of blackberries and black plumbs), together with hints of new
wood (vanilla). A powerful, chewy mouth with mature, very fruity
tannins. Long.
VIÑA PRODIGUS Crianza
Oak-aged for 12 months. Matures perfectly in the bottle for 6-8
years following its harvest.
Type of wine: Vintage wine. Monovariety.
Grape variety: 100% Toro Red.
Alcoholic content: 13.9% Vol.
Ageing: 12 months in oak (80% American oak - 20% French
oak).
Description: Cherry coloured. Intense. Ripe fruit aroma
(forest fruit: blackberry, blackberry, redcurrant). A chewy, full
and tasty mouth with mature, sweet tannins. Very persistent.
VIÑA PRODIGUS Reserva
Oak-aged for at least 18 months and bottle-aged for one year.
It matures perfectly in the bottle for 10-12 years following its
harvest.
Type of wine: Reserve red. Varietal.
Grape variety: 95% Toro Red and 5% Garnacha.
Alcoholic content: 13.8% Vol.
Ageing: 18 months in 225 l. barrels. Three barrel changes.
70% American oak and 30% French oak.
Description: Deep cherry colour, very fine and pleasant aroma
(cocoa, pipe tobacco, black pepper, candied fruit, etc.). A round,
full-bodied mouth with powerful yet sweet
tannins. Very persistent.
